Inauguration Ceremony of Hilton Garden Inn Évora

Mercan Properties' latest project was inaugurated this Thursday afternoon (May 11th), in Évora, next to Rossio de São Brás. This is the first hotel to be opened in Évora, a UNESCO World Heritage City.

The Hilton Garden Inn hotel results from an urban rehabilitation project with an investment of 21 million euros, operating under the international hotel brand - Hilton Hotels. Mercan Properties was honored by the presence of members of the Municipality of Évora, representatives of Hilton Garden Inn, investors, agents, and the partners who developed the new Hilton Garden Inn, Évora, namely architects, engineers, interior designers, and construction managers.

The inauguration was attended by the Mayor of Évora, Carlos Pinto de Sá, the CEO of Mercan Group, Jerry Morgan, and the President of Mercan Properties, Jordi Vilanova.

For the President of Mercan Properties, "it was the people" who brought Mercan Group to this region of Portugal, adding to the fact that "as a Canadian company, after 34 years of making investments in different countries, our interest is, with our foreign investors, to look for distinct elements that have a historical culture, and that was the reason why we chose Évora". Jordi Vilanova also highlights the beauty of the city as "a historical city with a lot of culture and heritage, and that's what led us to invest here."

As a modern and sophisticated project for the Alentejo countryside, the Mayor of Évora's City Hall states that this type of investment "was fundamental, and a particularly happy investment because, from the first contact we had with Mercan and Hilton, it was very easy to reach an understanding, the negotiations were fast, the projects operated beautifully, and so I would like to highlight this aspect".

Carlos de Sá explains that "we were surprised with three more investments, one of them already in motion, next to the Portas de Avis, and another known as the Fábrica da Bolota in Évora, which is also being developed right now".

The Mayor of Évora believes that this is an important moment for the development of the city: "The tourism sector is a priority for Évora and we hope to grow in terms of tourism until 2027, we want to create roots for the hotel business afterward. Of course, the Hilton brand, for its prestige, brings to Évora a new type of tourist, or visitor. This is an excellent project for Évora and we are grateful to Mercan and Hilton for betting on Évora.

The new Mercan Properties Hotel is located just a few minutes from the historic center of the city of Évora, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. With an area of more than eight thousand square meters, the Hilton Garden Inn Évora has 130 rooms, a bar, and a rooftop pool. Among all its amenities, the hotel has a restaurant, gym, and meeting room with the capacity to host up to 50 people.
