Among the 44 nominations for tourist accommodation, the region stands out as Best Beach Destination in Europe and Best Sustainable Destination.

The Algarve is once again in the spotlight of World Travel Awards 2023 European gala, which will be held in Batumi - Georgia, on September 30.

With 44 nominations, the region debuts as the Best Sustainable Tourism Destination in Europe, ahead of competitors such as Porto Santo Island (Madeira), Cannes (France), Corfu and Costa Navarino (Greece), Mallorca and Marbella (Spain).

Among the nominations, Algarve is once again running for Best Beach Destination in Europe, an award it has already won nine times.

In competition, other categories such as Best Beach Hotel, Best Beach Resort, Best Lifestyle Resort, and Best Leisure Resort in Europe highlight the region for the awards that distinguish excellence and the best of the tourism and hospitality sector.

In an interview with PUBLITURIS magazine, the president of Algarve Tourism, João Fernandes, considers that these nominations position the region as a  "more qualified and cosmopolitan destination than international competitors":

"Tourism in the Algarve is now a sector much more committed to sustainable development and these nominations result from the awareness of the need to implement best practices and change behaviors to make the tourism sector a viable economic activity in the long term," reinforces the president.

Voting for the World Travel Awards 2023 runs until August 20 and is available here.
