Casa das Lérias in Amarante, Portugal, is pleased to announce it has been inducted into Historic Hotels Worldwide, the official program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation (in the United States of America) for recognizing and celebrating the finest historic touristic facilities around the globe.

Historic Hotels Worldwide promotes heritage and cultural travel by featuring a prestigious collection of historic treasures including historic hotels and other historic lodgings spanning more than 10 centuries in 47 countries around the world.

“Historic Hotels Worldwide is honored to induct Casa das Lérias, a discrete and relaxing historic place open since 2021,” said Lawrence Horwitz, Executive Vice President of Historic Hotels of America and Historic Hotels Worldwide. “We commend the Casa das Lérias, Ace Hospitality Management, and leadership team for their careful historic preservation work, stewardship, and vision that will allow future generations of travelers to experience this unique historic destination.”

Historic Hotels Worldwide membership is exclusive to select hotels, resorts, and inns with lodgings at historic sites that are at least 75 years old and offer historic accommodations. Though it is a diverse collection, each member is required to possess one or more of the following qualities: it served as the former home, or it is located on the grounds of the former home, of famous persons, or it is a significant location for an event in history; it is located in or within walking distance to a historic district, a historically significant landmark, place of a historic event, or historic city center; it has been recognized by a local preservation organization or national trust; and it displays historic memorabilia, artwork, photography, or other examples of its historic significance.

Telma Silva, the General Manager of Casa das Lérias, says, “It is with great honor and joy that we see Casa das Lérias now becoming part of the Historic Hotels Worldwide group. It is indeed prestigious to be part of a group that recognizes and values historical significance. Being on par with so many other hotels is a sign to us that we are heading in the right direction.”

The “Casa das Lérias” is rich in history and architectural integrity, as the place inherits its location from a historic and emblematic bakery with the same name. The original building was once known as the famous “Casa das Lérias,” a place renowned for Amarante’s traditional convent sweets called “Lérias.” It belonged to Alcino dos Reis, considered a visionary and avant-garde for his time and a true ambassador of Amarante to the world. With windows facing the Tâmega River (close to the city center), Casa das Lérias is ideal for relaxing the mind and enjoying what this destination has to offer. Adventure programs, bicycle or walking tours along the river, and tasting regional products are some of the options available to guests.
