Lisbon: Tourists are increasingly seeking out the Portuguese capital

For foreigners, Portugal continues to be a worthwhile destination and Portuguese culture is what most attracts them to visit the country.

Tourists are increasingly interested in Lisbon, and the numbers continue to grow. In July there were 3.2 million guests across the country.

The largest share of tourists continues to be foreigners, with the British leading the list, followed by neighboring Spain. According to the National Statistics Institute (INE), there was an increase in guests compared to July 2019, i.e. before the pandemic. On the other hand, there was a drop in overnight stays by residents compared to last year. The Portuguese stayed fewer nights in hotels and local accommodations.

For foreigners, Portugal continues to be a worthwhile destination and Portuguese culture is what most attracts them to visit the country.

INE also revealed that, for the first time since March 2021, the Algarve and the Azores recorded a drop in the number of overnight stays, while Madeira fell for the second month in a row.
