Hotel occupancy rate in October was higher than in 2022 and 2019

According to AHETA, the occupancy rate per room of hotel units in the Algarve was 72.7%, an increase both in relation to 2022 and in relation to 2019, the last “normal” tourist year before the pandemic, according to the Association of Hotels and Tourist Resorts in the Algarve (AHETA).

Occupancy in October 2023 was 4.8 percentage points (pp) higher than in the same month of 2022 and 2.3 pp higher than in 2019. «The markets that contributed most to the year-on-year rise observed were the German market, with + 1.7pp, the Irish, with +0.6pp, and the North American, with +0.5pp», according to AHETA. 

By geographical areas, «the biggest increases compared to the previous year occurred in the areas of Monte Gordo / Vila Real de Santo António (+13.7pp), Carvoeiro / Armação de Pêra (+12.6pp) and Tavira (+8.0pp) ». The average stay was 4.5 nights, «0.6 more than in the same month of 2022. The longest average stays were those in the Danish market, with 7.1 nights and the Dutch market, with 6.5.
