Portugal conquers 12 tourism "Oscars" at the World Travel Awards

The grand finale of the Tourism Oscars was announced last week in Dubai and Portugal won 12 categories

In a ceremony that included more than 293 awards, Portugal won in 12 global categories. The highlights were the victory of the Azores as the World's Best Adventure Tourism Destination, Madeira for the ninth time as the World's Best Island Destination, and Braga, voted the World's Best Emerging Destination.

TAP was also awarded in categories: Best Airline to Africa and Best Airline to South America, distinctions it had already won in 2022.

Regarding the award for Madeira, the regional secretary for Tourism and Culture and also president of the Madeira Promotion Association, Eduardo Jesus, pointed out that "it is the consolidation of the recognition of the work that has been carried out by the entire sector to position the region as a unique destination, which, throughout the 12 months of the year, captivates visitors from all over the world, due to its unique characteristics in terms of nature, culture, varied experiences and identity".

Awarded since 1993, the WTAs are considered the "Oscars" of world tourism. They are recognized by professionals in the sector on a global scale, distinguishing the prestige and work carried out in the tourism industry, to stimulate the competitiveness and quality of tourism, in an exceptional year for those responsible for the World Travel Awards, which are celebrating their 30th anniversary.
