During the presentation of the new campaign of Turismo de Portugal, the Secretary of State for Tourism, Commerce, and Services, Nuno Fazenda, highlighted the numbers achieved by the sector in the country: 25 billion euros, corresponding to a growth of 37% compared to the previous record, reached in 2019.

According to the Secretary of State for Tourism, Commerce, and Services (SETCS), Nuno Fazenda, 2023 will be 'the year of all records for tourism in Portugal', emphasizing the numbers achieved in tourism, in 2023: more than 30 million guests (+10% compared to 2019); 77 million overnight stays (+10% compared to 2019); and 25 billion euros in revenue (+37% compared to 2019).

The secretary recalled that 'tourism has an important role to play in society, and should contribute to ensuring that future generations can enjoy the assets that distinguish us as a tourist destination. Portugal has the challenge of growing well, throughout the territory, and throughout the year, but in a sustainable, authentic, and genuine way, generating value for the territories and the people.'

This growth throughout the national territory was, in fact, one of the points highlighted by Nuno Fazenda, who stressed the importance of growing 'in all regions, throughout the country, and throughout the year', also indicating that this effort comes from everyone, 'entrepreneurs, companies, Regional Tourism Entities, Turismo de Portugal, and public policies'. Still regarding the year 2023, Nuno Fazenda referred to the numbers advanced by the World Tourism Organization (WTO) that indicated that it would be possible to reach 85 to 90% of pre-pandemic levels in the year that just ended. 'Now, Portugal has already exceeded this level', emphasized SETCS.
