Renaissance Porto Lapa Hotel and Sé Catedral Hotel Porto triumph at World Travel Awards

The Hotels of Mercan Group in Portugal, managed by AHM, were elected in the categories of "Portugal's Leading Business Hotel 2024" and "Portugal's Leading Design Hotel 2024", respectively.

Known as the “Oscars of tourism”, the World Travel Awards have just announced the winners for 2024, and two of the most recent novelties in the city of Porto were awarded: the Renaissance Porto Lapa Hotel, in the category of “Portugal's Leading Business Hotel 2024” and the Sé Catedral Hotel Porto, in the category of “Portugal's Leading Design Hotel 2024”.

Owned by Mercan Properties and the Mercan Group in Portugal, and managed by the company AHM - Ace Hospitality Management, the two hotel units were highlighted at the ceremony yesterday in Berlin, attended by their respective general managers.

For Paulo Pereira, director of the Renaissance Porto Lapa, “It is with pride that we receive this recognition, less than a year after our opening. It is undoubtedly an extra motivation for the entire team committed to making the Renaissance Porto Lapa a reference hotel in the city and the country, combining the comfort of a 5-star service with an experience of authenticity. A new concept of luxury.”

Bruno Miranda, director of the Sé Catedral Hotel Porto, believes that “this is an achievement that validates the bet on the hotel's differentiating concept, designed to tell and inspire stories. And this philosophy goes far beyond decoration; it is a way of being, relaxed, vibrant, and creative, just like the city of Porto itself.”

Opened in April 2023, the Renaissance Porto Lapa belongs to the global portfolio of Marriott Bonvoy, which includes more than 30 hotel brands worldwide, being the only one in Portugal under this brand. Located in the historic Lapa neighborhood in Porto, the hotel is an elegant and sophisticated urban retreat, just minutes away from the iconic Lapa Church and other city landmarks such as Casa da Música and the Torre dos Clérigos. It features 163 elegant rooms and suites, a restaurant, two signature bars, and 544 m2 of flexible event space, equipped with the latest conference technologies.

Located in the heart of Porto, the Sé Catedral Hotel Porto Tapestry Collection by Hilton also marked the debut of the Tapestry Collection by Hilton brand in Portugal. As the name reveals, it boasts a privileged location in front of one of the city's most iconic monuments, the Sé Catedral. It presents itself as a 4-star unit, featuring 77 rooms, each structurally different with bold and irreverent decoration inspired by the four corners of the world, a restaurant, and a bar.

The World Travel Awards were created in 1993 to reward the global tourism industry, encouraging competitiveness and quality in the sector.
