Tourist Accommodation Grows 12.2% in Guests and 12.8% in Overnight Stays in March

Regarding foreign markets, the British market was the main emitter in March with a growth of 9.3%, holding an overall share of 16.4%.

The tourist accommodation sector registered 2.3 million guests and 5.7 million overnight stays in March, an annual increase of 12.2% and 12.8% respectively, announced today by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

In February, the tourist accommodation sector, which includes hotels, hotel-apartments, tourist apartments, tourist villages, hostels, and Madeira estates and local accommodation with 10 or more beds, had recorded an increase in guests and overnight stays of 7.1% and 6.4%, in the same order, according to the INE, noting that the acceleration in March was due to the Easter boost.

Overnight stays by residents, in turn, grew 10.3% in March of this year, amounting to 1.6 million, while those by non-residents increased by 13.8%, totaling 4.1 million, it adds. Regarding foreign markets, the British market was the main emitter in March with a growth of 9.3%, holding an overall share of 16.4%. The INE also notes that in the first three months of this year, overnight stays grew by 7.1% year-on-year, with a 3.9% increase for residents and an 8.7% increase among non-residents.
