New Chapter to Mercan's History: Inauguration Ceremony of Holiday Inn Express Évora

Évora, a UNESCO World Heritage city, welcomes Mercan Properties Group's latest hotel investment in the Alentejo region: the Holiday Inn Express Évora. The event, attended by representatives from the group, local officials, and special guests, including Évora’s Mayor, Carlos Pinto de Sá, marks the start of operations for this new hotel under the prestigious IHG Hotels & Resorts brand.

The Holiday Inn Express Évora, located near the Portas de Avis, represents a €16.8 million investment, creating 35 new jobs for its operation and 98 positions established during its construction. This reinforces Mercan Properties Group’s commitment to the region’s economic and tourism development, joining other successful ventures like the Hilton Garden Inn Évora and Holiday Inn Beja. This latest Mercan Hotel strengthens, once again, our presence in the Alentejo region establishing it as a leading force in the hospitality and tourism sector.

At the inauguration, Jordi Vilanova, President of Mercan Properties in Portugal, emphasized the project’s importance within the group’s expansion in the Alentejo: “The opening of the HIEX Évora represents a new and significant milestone in the history of Mercan Properties Group in Portugal and, in particular, in this beautiful Alentejo region. This project reflects our vision as promoters of urban rehabilitation investments while enhancing the cultural and historical wealth of Évora. We are very enthusiastic about the positive impact we expect this project to have on the city of Évora.”

The new Holiday Inn Express Évora boasts a contemporary design, with 76 rooms, a swimming pool, a restaurant, a lounge bar, and meeting rooms, making it an ideal choice for both leisure and business travelers. Hotel management will be handled by AHM – Ace Hospitality Management, the group's company specializing in hotel management. With the official opening of the Holiday Inn Express Évora, Mercan Properties Group reaffirms its commitment to sustainable development and promoting excellence in tourism within Portugal's interior region. This is the group’s second hotel in Évora, following the opening and start of operations of the Hilton Garden Inn Évora last year.
