“Porto de Arquitetura” introduces Renaissance Porto Lapa Hotel and new Urban Park in Lapa

Last Saturday, May 10, the fourth visit of the “Porto of Architecture” program took participants to the Renaissance Porto Lapa Hotel and the Dr. Mário Soares Urban Park—two projects transforming the Lapa area, right in the heart of the city.

Opened in 2023, the Renaissance Porto Lapa Hotel stands out for its commitment to sustainable solutions and its contribution to the area's renewed urban dynamics. As the hotel expanded, a new urban park was created to connect the city and guests. Named Dr. Mário Soares Urban Park - an homage to an important Portuguese political personality - with 17,000 square meters of green space, it resulted from a partnership between the municipality and Mercan Properties. Designed as part of the “Lapa Operation,” the park opened to the public at the end of 2024. In the meantime, the hotel's new wing is expected to open this year.

As with previous sessions, the tour was guided by professionals involved in the visited projects, offering participants an in-depth look at each initiative. The “Porto de Arquitetura” series is promoted by the City of Porto and Casa da Arquitectura, and features six visits exploring different scales and approaches within the city.
